Earth Day Recyclables Collection Event |
The RCEs were conducted for the seventh consecutive year, as part of the Earth Day tradition of PBE and its partners, to highlight the garbage problem and offer a concrete solution through Waste Recycling and Resource Recovery. At the RCEs, organizations and individuals are encouraged to bring their recyclable materials to pre-identified buying stations

 |
(usually large open commercial parking lots) where they are able to sell/ trade or donate these. Specific recyclable materials that can be brought to the RCEs are used paper and paper products, used lead acid batteries (from cars, UPS, rechargeable lamps), junk electronics and electrical equipment, PET bottles, aluminum cans, and used ink/toner cartridges. Drop off areas are provided for cellphone, cellphone batteries & chargers and styrofoam as well as registration area for used car tires and used oil.
|
The Objectives of the RCE are to:
• Increase public awareness on the waste crisis, and support to recycling efforts
• Encourage more recycling by industry (particularly by the private sector and large institutional waste generators), and
• Ultimately, to encourage more investments in recycling technologies.
Though the RCEs are one-day promotional events, PBE promotes recycling and resource recovery year round through its Industry Waste Exchange Program (IWEP). The RCE collection is then tallied in terms of volume, monetary amount and environmental benefits.
As RCE Coordinator, PBE is responsible for general promotions, arranging RCE schedules, providing on – site assistance to RCE Organizers as needed, and assisting new RCE Organizers. It also prepares the consolidated RCE Report which describes the total combined volume, economic value and environmental benefits of the RCEs, as a measure of its impact. The RCEs also served as the inspiration to the creation of the weekend Waste Markets organized by the Ayala Malls and the SM Supermalls since 2006.
