Recyclables Collection Event

 

The annual Recyclables Collection Event (RCE) is a one-day collection event for recyclable materials usually held around “Earth Day” week in April. Companies, establishments, malls, condominiums, organizations and individuals are invited to bring their recyclables –
namely, used paper, electronics, car batteries, PET bottles, aluminum cans, used cartridges, polystyrene packaging waste – to designated drop off areas (usually a large open parking lot) where these are redeemed for cash at buying stations set up by recyclers.

• 883 seven-year old trees
• 155.70 cu.m. landfill space saved

35,220 ki assorted electrical/electronic eqpt. equals:
• 42,264 kilos base metals
• 4,350 grams of precious metals
• 7,044 kilos toxic waste avoided
• 352.2 cu.m. landfill space saved

9,211 pcs lead / car batteries equals:
• 131,256.75 kilos lead
• 26,251.35 liters sulfuric acid
• 248.87 cu.m. landfill space saved

For year 2004 alone, a total economic value of the collected recyclable materials amounted to Php 285,000.
